Weekly Weather Felt Board

Oh my goodness...I've had this idea in my head for months and it's so exciting to see it finally finished!  It was the project that kept getting pushed to the back burner so I could finish other things.  Prepare for photo overload below, because this board is bright and colorful and I couldn't help but take a ton of pictures of it!

The board has a few different activities on it:
  • Days of the week that velcro on and off and place to display the current day
  • Thermometer with a sliding arrow to show the temperature
  • Ornaments that hang on buttons to display which season it is
  • Felt weather board to create weather scenes
  • Clear pocket to store the felt pieces for the weather scene
To make this board, I used a 12x18 inch piece of royal blue felt for the background and a 9x12 inch of baby blue felt for the weather board.  For the rest of the board, I just used scrap pieces of felt left over from other projects.  I also used assorted buttons and a piece of clear vinyl to make the pocket. I used my embroidery machine to embroider all of the words, and I cut most of the shapes with my Sizzix die cutter.

For the back of the board, I used up scraps from my quiet book pages!  I love this beautiful rainbow of color!!

I added large eyelets to the top corners of the board so I could hang it on the wall with command hooks.

I hope you all enjoy it!  I won't be selling these right now, but I'll be happy to provide instructions if anyone has questions and would like to make one!

Bright & Colorful Busy Mat

When a friend contacted me to make a custom busy mat for her daughter, the first thing she requested was bright, bold colors.  I'm so happy she did because this turned out to be one of my favorite projects! I even found fabric to match the colors on the mat, and the fabric has silver sparkles for an extra bit of fun!

This mat is also one of my favorite projects because it incorporates so many activities all in one toy! It has FIVE activities on the inside and a zippered pocket on the back to store the lose pieces.  I love how *busy* this busy mat is and I hope it keeps its new owner happy and entertained during her travels!

*Safety note about the shoe lacing activity - if you make one for your child, sew the laces down to prevent them from coming undone and becoming a potential hazard*

Close up of the pretty sparkles!

Little Man Busy Mats

These are two mats that I made and photographed this summer, but forgot to post!  These are the companions to my Little Princess Busy Mats and the vintage wagon mat is still available for sale in my Etsy shop!

There are four activities to keep busy little boys entertained.  The felt shapes velcro onto their matching shapes or can be stored in the pocket .  The I Spy window is made with clear vinyl and there are 5 vehicles hidden in the beads.  The three zippers are great for little fingers (Rhys loves them!) and the buckle is great for practicing fine motor skills!

Felt Car Play Mats

I feel like I've been on a pink streak for a while making girly play mats, so I wanted to add some more boy mats to the shop!  I cut out all the pieces for these a few weeks ago, and finally got around to finishing them this weekend.

These mats are made entirely of felt on the inside and fold up for easy portability.  Each mat has a pop-up car wash and three pockets behind little shops to store toy cars!  I used stiff blue felt to make the pop-up car wash and you'll see in the pictures below that it folds down flat when you're ready to close up the mat.

All of the felt pieces on these mats were hand sewn and took quite a bit of time to finish.  I think I will experiment with machine stitching the roads and shops next time, but overall I'm happy with how these turned out!  The red mat has already been snatched up, but the yellow mat will be listed for sale in my Etsy shop here!
